Working collaboratively with your child’s other parent is the key to bringing up an emotionally healthy child. It is important to agree on the same set of rules. Have consistent methods of discipline. Have the same bed time arrangements regarding time, bedtime rituals, etc. Explain at the appropriate age level why you both have decided to live apart. Make certain your child knows that your decision to have separate living arrangement is not his fault.
Do not use your children as pawns.
Do not ask your children to take sides.
Do not disrespect each other.
Accentuate the positive and above all COLLABORATE.
