Time Out: To Use or Not to Use?

Time Out? Is it punitive or instructive? Some parents use time out to remove a child who has misbehaved from an enjoyable activity to ” teach the child a lesson.” The lesson is – “bad behavior doesn’t pay.” It can also serve to calm down a child who’s behavior has gotten out of control by removing the child from the activity and from interacting with other children.
